Farm Stock (Scotland) Members Livestock Throughputs Grow in 2024/25

Against a backdrop of a declining national suckler beef herd and a poor lambing back in 2024, Farm Stock (Scotland)’s livestock throughputs for the year to end 31st March 2025 are up an impressive 4.5% overall.

Jonny Williams who leads the firm commented, “I am absolutely delighted with the overall growth in numbers which is just reward for the hard work of the whole staff team, from the procurement team out on the farm in all weathers, to the often unseen work of the administration staff at Earlston”.  He added, “As a farmer owned co-operative we are here to work on our members behalf, to maximise their livestock values. The combination of recruiting new farmers and increased livestock throughput from existing member consignors is indicative of the staff providing a high level of service.”

Alex Norval, who has headed up the livestock procurement team since October explained that, “this winter we have seen a 14% increase in numbers of prime hoggs flowing through the business with prime stock being actively marketed to18 abattoirs throughout Scotland, England & Wales.” He added, “Building on from last years growth, the staff team are finding more farmers wanting to take advantage of trading store and breeding stock farm to farm, to try and reduce marketing & transport costs as well as keep livestock bio-security as high as is possible”.
