Trade Update – Friday 13th February 2026
Cattle
Prime cattle prices have largely levelled out over the past week, with numbers forward remaining plentiful. Demand from English abattoirs appears slightly stronger than Scottish processors, which is uncommon. Base prices have been quoted around 625–630p/kg, with Angus premiums in the region of 15p/kg.
Cull cow trade has held firm, with base prices 530–550p/kg over the last seven days. As predicted, the volume limitations now being introduced across many milk contracts are likely to encourage dairy farmers to cull higher numbers marginal cows. If you would like to discuss the range of marketing opportunities available for either beef or dairy bred cull cows, please get in touch.
Store cattle continue to be keenly competed for, including both suckler and dairy-bred types. Regular consignments of Charolais and Angus stores will be available in the coming weeks. Luings, Sim-Luings, and other grazing types are particularly wanted. Despite some easing in the prime trade, demand for store cattle remains remarkably strong.
Sheep
Demand for hoggs has remained very positive despite increased numbers coming forward across most areas in the run up the festival. Base prices typically 695–710p/kg in the last week. This strong trade is being driven by:
· Increased retail demand linked to the Ramadan festival
· Ongoing severe weather conditions which are negatively impacting on hogg finishing across the whole country
Processors throughout Scotland and the UK continue to require more hoggs for next week if you get into hoggs over the weekend.
Theprolonged wet weather has resulted in a high number of wet and dirty lambs, which in some cases is causing hygiene challenges at abattoirs. Thank you toeveryone for the continued effort in presenting lambs as clean and dry aspossible before loading. Clipping can be arranged on arrival — please keep yourfieldsman informed.
Organics
Scottishand English organic prime cattle prices remain strong, achieving base pricesaround 770p/kg last week. Organic store cattle are both wanted and available.
Organicprime hoggs continue to attract good premiums, typically 10p/kg aboveconventional prices.
