Cattle
Prime cattle are a stand on in price, with the trade finally balanced in the last week. Most cattle 650-560p. At this stage, further significant increases in price feel very unlikely this side of the new year. Consumer spending on beef is said to be very lacklustre compared to last year, with the predicted tax rises in the budget expected to dent confidence further.
Cows remain keenly sort after with very strong demand for all classes of beef and dairy cows. Prices 555-570. Most cows are moving within 7-10 days, direct from farm to abattoir. More cows wanted every week now out of all areas. With difficulties in the milk sector likely early in 2026 we expect an increased number of cows to come forward.
Sheep
We have seen excellent demand for standard lambs in the last week with lambs trading between 650-680p/kg, dependent on lamb specification and weight. The rise in the trade has brought out a flush of bigger lambs as the week has gone on. This has taken the shine off things ever so slightly but still is very positive for the time of the year. Small volumes of lightweight lambs in the last week, 650-660p.
In the coming weeks we have been forecast excellent demand for lightweight lambs and subject to exchange rates, we would expect the price of these to lift significantly. Lambs need to be fleshy to hit specification and at this stage we would recommend members to target feeding for uplift 24thNovember to 10th December 2025.
With ground conditions deteriorating most processors require lambs to be belly clipped before slaughter. This can be done in the abattoir if required. Please speak to your fieldsman to discuss the options. Thankyou for shutting lambs off grass before uplift, your attention to detail is greatly appreciated.
Organics
We have a significant increase in demand for organic cattle in the run-up to Christmas, with the job looking set to continue through2026. Good well well-fleshed organic cattle are attracting a very strong premium of over £1/kg over the conventional trade. Please phone your local fieldsman to discuss.
Organic prime lambs in good demand this week with premiums of 10-20p/kg.
