Cattle
Prime cattle prices have remained steady over the last week, with more supplies coming forward now that most finishers in the East have completed their harvest work. Clean cattle have traded at 610–620p/kg. More prime cattle and OTMs are wanted.
Cull cow prices continue to come under pressure, largely due to the high volumes coming forward in England and Wales. Scotland, which has not been as badly affected by the drought, continues to have lower-than-normal cow throughputs.
There is currently a short waiting list for moving dairy cows, so please book them in early. Beef cows are much easier to move, and we need more to meet firm demand.
Store cattle are keenly sought after. More store cattle are wanted for farm-to-farm sale basis, including all breeds and both suckler- and dairy-bred cattle. Some excellent batches of English suckler-bred cattle are now coming forward. Please contact us for further details.
Sheep
We have seen really firm demand for prime lambs from all areas over the last week. Base prices are currently 680–700p/kg. This is approximately 40–50p/kg ahead of the same week last year, which is fantastic news for our farmer members.
With the weather changing, lambs are really benefiting from a fresh “bite”, helping to boost weights, grades and kill-out percentages. Lambs drawn on farms this week have also been performing particularly well off clean silage aftermaths.
In terms of uplift, most lambs are moving within a week of the Friday booking. More standard-weight lambs are required to meet excellent demand, both farm-assured and non-farm-assured. If you would like a fieldsman to visit, please get in touch.
We also have breeding sheep available to suit all pockets, including ewelambs, gimmers and draft ewes.
The store lamb trade is a little firmer. We are now receiving firm orders forhill lambs, including Blackies, Cheviots and Easycares. Please let us know ifyou have any to move in the coming weeks.
Organics
Organic cattle prices have held once again at around 740p/kg. This represents an extraordinarily long period of price stability, which is welcome news for organic producers and finishers. We have some excellent batches of organic cattle becoming available.
Organic prime lambs are trading at 710–730p/kg. We also have buyers coming forward for organic store lambs, so please let us know if you have any to sell.
As always, please phone the office or contact your local fieldsman forfurther information.
