Trading Update – 3RD July 2026
Dear members,
July has quietly crept in amongst the hustle and bustle of hay making, grass cutting, pit covering, and dare i say it? - the familiar hum of the combine starting up further south for the crimping season. The weather has been some what catchy, with us all getting burnt to a crisp last week, soaked over the weekend and then blown away this week, Mother nature just likes to remind us all that she still has the reins - despite what the government think!
Half the year has gone - the other half brings with it a mixture of storms, including the store lamb season, which kicked off this week for one of our team on the west! Breeding sheep sales will be here before we know it and many of the Farm Stock team have already started laying the foundations for a successful sale season, with many producers and buyers already contacted.
The store cattle season had a little rest but is starting to gather speed again with the fat trade on a stand on for the second week.
Prime Cattle
Prime cattle have as previously mentioned stabilised in the last two weeks, sitting around the 575-80ppk with Angus swooping in and collecting an extra 10p over base price depending on weight and spec.
Cows have continued to remain steady with waiting lists not too bad, and uplift being fairly swift.
Store cattle have had a new lease of life this past week off the back of the fat holding steady for another week. We are expecting to see regular consignors start to emerge from the baler dust with store cattle ready for a move towards the end of this month and into next month. Aberdeen Angus is the buzzword this season with particular emphasis on Dairy x Angus calves- we have a red hot demand for them currently with no sign of let up in the future.
Prime Lambs
Prime are set to ease again in the coming weeks, but still cashed in at around about the 840-800ppk with organics collecting up to an extra 50pdepending on location and spec. The demand for fat lambs reminds steady with no demand records getting broken just yet.
Off the back of the seasonably warm weather, there is lots of grass available this season which is a different ball game to what we faced last year, so there’s a lot of men that are considering keeping and fattening their lambs this season.
However for those who are still going to go down the store route – there is plenty of forage about and we can cater for all – horned to white face – to hill type to continentals.
Organics
The organic cattle trade continues to perform remarkably well, with prices comfortably exceeding 700p/kg. Waiting lists remain around one month in most cases, so please keep in regular contact with your fieldsman and plan marketing well in advance.

Organic spring lambs are now starting to come forward with premiums of around 30p-50p/kg currently available. More lambs are required.
