Cattle
Clean cattle numbers are finely balanced with some processors choosing to cut their kills rather than chase numbers in the last week. Plenty of fed cattle coming forward from grass. Prime cattle in the last week 640-650p Angus store cattle to 665-670p in the last week.
Cows are now coming forward in bigger numbers with the trade slipping 5p/kg especially for boning types. Base prices in the region of 550-570p/kg. More cows wanted every week, particularly well fleshed and plainer dairy types.
We have a waiting list of members looking for store cattle for further finishing, particularly those above 400kg. Angus sired dairy calves wanted14-28 days. 45kg minimum weight. Please get in touch with your local fields man for further information.
Sheep
Lambs have dipped slightly again week on week with large numbers coming forward as per early September. Kelso tup sale week has traditionally been the trough in the market in terms of lamb values but with marketing generally running a fortnight behind in most cases we might not have quite bottomed the barrel just yet. Base prices for standard weights have varied between 650-670p in the last week. Quotations for heavies and lights10-20p behind standard prices. Looking at average prices, main crop members averages are on average £20/head up on the year which is extremely pleasing.
Significant orders for light lambs now coming in 12-16kgdw. Please phone to discuss the options available.
Good batches of store lambs coming forward. Short, medium and long keep lambs available. Breeding sheep also available including Cheviot and Scotch Mules, Blackies, Cheviots and Easycare types
Organic Lamb
As is typical for September huge numbers of organic lambs coming forward with supply outstripping demand. Modest premiums ofapproximately10p/kg available. Organic store lambs available in good batch sizes.
Organic Cattle
Organic cattle in the last week to 760p/kg with demand firm. Forward organic store cattle required to meet firm demand.
