Good afternoon Members,
What a week, hopefully allof you that went to the Highland show have recovered, and you’ve all had awonderful time in the sun/rain/sun.
As the month hasprogressed, shearing and grass cutting are well underway, there’s rumblings ofan early harvest on the horizon with the good weather and lambs and calves arethriving well as we head into the summer.
Blue tongue has finally got its spindly fingers into the north, updates and changes are on our website, As are the links to the government website, if you have any questions or queries, please phone your local fields person. If you have stock going from England to Scotland/ Wales you will have to have specific paperwork, but you will be advised of this before movement.
Cattle
Prime
Rumour has it that the cattle price has bottomed out, and should start to lift again in the coming weeks, YAY!
Although the price still remains above 600PPK, paying between 620-650 dependingon what and where.
Cow prices are cruising along at roughly 530- 540. Cow prices look set to remain firm as we head into the summer with cow numbers tightening up again. This is encouraging farmers that are considering selling cows with calves at foot, to split them and fatten them. Further tightening the cycle. More cows wanted weekly
Store cattle are looking to start climbing back up the ladder price wise, with less store cattle about the market looks like it could get a lot hotter. Please bear in mind that if you’re thinking about sending English store cattle north over the border they will have to be vaccinated before they can go. We advise you to speak to your vet.
Sheep:
Lamb trade has steadied up this week, with many places standing on from last weeksprices. Normally the highland show is the unofficial kick off for lambs comingforward and this year has been no different, with larger numbers starting toappear. Big variations in prices across the country 700-770 depending onlocation and dressing spec.
Cast sheep demand is still strong, withoutlets paying up to 470 depending onweight and spec, plainer ewes paid slightly less.
Store Sheep have started! One of our fieldspeople Has had the first lot offered! If you’re looking to make a start onstores, please phone. Let the battles commence!
Organics

Cattle
