Cattle
Prime cattle are facing very mixed demand this week with prices mostly standing on in the region of 6550-665p. Some abattoirs have seemingly plenty of stock whilst others are still chasing numbers hard. Strong premiums available for Aberdeen Angus cattle. Generally speaking, with adequate levels of cattle around and Christmas kills to be finished in the next fortnight the trade is unlikely to move upwards. All eyes will be on the budget next week
Cull cows are slightly easier in price for next week but not significantly, this has been driven largely by an influx of dairy cows due to milk price pressures. Well fleshed strong beef cows suitable for export remain extremely well sort after. Base prices in the region of 550-565p on the R in the last week.
Large dispersal of 200 Angus suckler cows TB1 in calf to an Angus. Please phone Nikki.
Sheep
We have seen excellent demand for all classes of standard lambs in the last week with sheep trading between 655-690p/kg, with well fleshed continental lambs most keenly sort after. We have seen excellent demand particularly from processors in the South with the English and Welsh Winter Fairs reducing available volumes.
Prices looking like they will strengthen significantly for next week for all classes of lambs, with the snowy weather leading to some local shortages of sheep. Light lambs are starting to move with processors looking for peak volumes beginning the first week of December. Lights in the region of 670p in the last week but we expect this to edge up to begin with a 7.
Organics
We have a significant increase in demand for organic cattle in the run-up to Christmas, with outlook appearing very promising. New suppliers welcome. Good well well-fleshed organic cattle are attracting a very strong premium of over £1/kg over the conventional trade. Please phone your local fieldsman to discuss.
Organic prime lambs in good demand this week with premiums of20p/kg over the conventional price. We expect demand to remain very firm for the next fortnight. More needed to meet demand.
