Trading Update 29th May 2026
Cattle
Prime cattle prices appear to have levelled out, with most trading in the region of 580–590p/kg over the past week. That leaves prices around 50p/kg back on the turn of the year and a full 100p/kg behind the same week last year.
We now need to see a meaningful lift in consumer confidence to help stimulate demand. Hopefully, the recent spell of good weather has encouraged a few BBQs to be fired up.
Cull cow values have held up remarkably well and continue to out perform the clean cattle trade relatively. Cows have generally been trading at 510–525p/kg, depending on quality and breeding. Demand remains good for all types of beef and dairy cows.
Store cattle prices are certainly back, but demand remains really quite good, particularly for younger cattle and beef x dairy stores from 3–10 months. We also have several orders for Angus steers, 300–400kg, so please get in touch if you have any available.
Sheep
What an incredible final week of May it has been. Spring lambs have reached 930p/kg, with grading and kill-outs excellent. Producers are around £46/head up on the year. MORE WANTED! Still some space for next week.
With the major festival now past, we expected a sharper dip in the trade, but with numbers still slow to come forward, next week looks positive too.
Hoggs have seen very firm demand, particularly at the start of the week, with prices up to 900p/kg. Please check teeth carefully if you want to avoid mature sheep penalties. The UK mature sheep policy feels increasingly outdated at times, and reform is urgently required.
If you still have hoggs left, please get in touch as soon as possible, as numbers are easing back very quickly. Unclipped hoggs can lose condition rapidly in warmer weather, so please monitor them closely.
Organics
Organic hoggs have attracted strong premiums this week, with most trading in the region of 930–940p/kg. Organic finishers will be delighted with these returns, and hopefully these prices will encourage organic store lamb buyers to return strongly next summer.
Organic cattle prices are coming under a little pressure, with organic processors and retailers reporting lacklustre demand. We have excellent batches of organic steers and heifers available, so please get in touch if you are looking for cattle.
