December 2025

31st December 2026

Happy New Year to all our farmer members when it comes!

Cattle

The cattle trade has remained stable over the past fortnight, with base prices in the region of 630-635p/kg with two short trading weeks resulting in little overall movement. As we move into the second full week of January, we will gain a clearer picture of supply and demand.

Cow numbers coming forward—particularly dairytypes—have eased significantly. All eyes will be on the milk trade this Springas this will significantly influence the numbers of cull cows which comeforward. Demand remains firm for best beef cows as well as plainer Blues andSteakers, with base prices in the region of 530–540p/kg. Additional cow numberswill be required for pickup in the New Year.

Store cattle continued to move farm-to-farmright up until 23rd December. Several member finishers are looking to restocksheds in January, so please get in touch if you have store cattle ready tomove.

Sheep

The lamb trade has strengthened significantlyover the last fortnight, with the waiting lists seen in early December nowcleared. In the past week, very firm demand has been seen from nine differentprocessors across the UK. Most lambs are trading in the region of 690–700p/kg,depending on quality, specification, and location, with heavier lambs achievingup to 640p/kg.

The ewe trade has also seen a notable lift, with sheep meeting specification achieving around 450–460p/kg. Please speak toyour fieldsman to discuss the marketing options available.

Organics

Organic cattle continue to be keenly competed for, with premiums exceeding 100p/kg. More organic cattle are required to meet strong demand in January.

Organic lambs are also attracting a good premium, with supply and demand remaining well balanced.
