11th July 2025

Good Afternoon Members,

What a good week it’s been! With the sun baking down on us, combines are moving, grass is getting cut at high speed all over the country, fat cattle trade is starting to lift again and sheep prices remain firm! YAAY!

Travelling back up from the Great Yorkshire Show this week, it was go go go! Grass dropped everywhere up and down the A1 and the A68 literally making hay while the sun shines!  and combines were coming out of hiding to do their summer stint!

The hot weather has had as light knock on effect with the lambs coming forward, just steadying them up awee bit.

However this has helped keep the fat price up as the demand currently outweighs the supply.

The fat cattle trade has turned the corner, while it sat still for a while after the highland, many places look set to lift the price as the year progresses.  NG

Cattle

Prime cattle are creeping up the scale a bit this week, with some outlets paying up to 635ppk with AA paying up to 645 ppk- as numbers tighten, the trade should continue to climb

Cow prices are cruising along in the 530-540 base.  These higher prices look set to stay going forward, with a record number of females being killed, so reports read this week. Dairy cows are up to 10ppk behind their beef counterparts, but still coming to good money.

Store cattle prices are starting to lift again, off the back of the lifting fat cattle prices. Large numbers of forward stores wanted. Please get in touch with your local fields person, if you have any you would like to move on.

Sheep

Spring lamb trade is holding up well, with another week looking set to stand on from last weeks prices, the lambs haven’t come forward as quickly this year as in previous years. Depending on who you speak to and in which location in the country, some say the lambs are just not there, so watch this space.

We currently have good demand for prime ewes, which with a number of different outlets handling them we hope to increase ewe numbers going forward, so please get in touch if this is something you would be interested to know more about.

Organics

Good organic lambs  are paying up to 785ppk this week, depending on location, weight and spec. Organic ewes wanted weekly going forward.

Organic prime cattle are still very much in high demand with the premium stretching up to 775ppk

We had a beast this week come to £3230!! Not to be sniffed at
