Trading Update – 26thJune 2026

Cattle

Processors continue to do their best to hold base prices, but the cracks are beginning to show! Waiting lists have largely disappeared over the last week, although this is likely to be seasonal, with grass-finished cattle still to come forward and many farmers focused on silage making.

Prime cattle traded at575–580p/kg over the past week, with Angus cattle achieving up to 600p/kg base. More cattle are required each week to meet improving demand. The recent spell of hot weather should be boosting sales of burgers, steaks and BBQ products, while easing fuel prices may also help improve consumer confidence and spending.

Cull cow prices remainstable, however, with a Scottish processor re-entering the cull cow market thissummer, increased competition could provide further support to prices.

Demand for store cattlecontinues to build, particularly for Angus cattle, both beef and dairy bred. More younger store cattle are required, with exceptional demand for native-breddairy calves.

Sheep

Prime lamb prices have eased slightly over the past week as numbers increase and the exceptionally hot weather across southern England and Europe affects demand. Scottish prices continue to hold ahead of the English trade, with base prices remaining at historically high levels of 840–880p/kg. More lambs are required to satisfy current demand. For comparison, lambs were making just 750–760p/kg at this time last year.

With the lamb trade still exceptionally strong, sheep numbers remaining tight, plentiful silage crops and a favourable warm, damp forecast, several members have already begun sowing catch crops for autumn and winter finishing. With the sheep outlook remaining positive, lots of grass and cereal prices relatively low, finishing lambs looks an attractive option this season.

We are looking fo enquiries for store lambs for next month.

Organics

The organic cattle trade continues to perform remarkably well, with prices comfortably exceeding 700p/kg. Waiting lists remain around one month in most cases, so please keep in regular contact with your fieldsman and plan marketing well in advance.

Organic spring lambs are nowstarting to come forward with premiums of around 30p/kg currently available.More lambs are required.
