Cattle

Prime

Prime cattle continue to climb, as we reach the long anticipated 700ppkg this week. This is dependant on spec and quality, with bases ranging from 685-700pkg this week amongst outlets.  Angus’  sitting at 710-720ppkg.

Cow prices are  also creeping up with bases of 540- 550ppkg this week. It would be interesting to see what the future of beef farming looks like, in terms of the numbers on the ground ? With many cashing in cows and heifers without seconded chances whilst the trade is so strong. Which is leading to great difficulty when it comes to sourcing breeding heifers.

Store cattle trade continues to strengthen with demand increasing for all shapes and size. As we head to a new financial year it will be interesting to see what comes forward, along with many who were holding on for prime hitting  that benchmark 700ppkg.  Purchasers are definitely keen to get cattle bought, especially rougher done cattle, that can go home and thrive. If you are looking for some or thinking of selling some, please get in touch sooner rather than later.

Sheep

Hogg trade has definitely steadied with bases between 725-735ppk this week.  Demand is slowing,  as quality reduces. Many are on their last draws, leading to large numbers of out of spec hoggs being put forward. With a late Easter however, we should hopefully see things remain fairly steady.

We currently have good demand for ewes, which with a number of different outlets handling them we hope to increase ewe numbers going forward, so please get in touch if this is something you would be interested to know more about.

It will be interesting to see if many ewes with lambs at foot will come forward with the general feeling that many will keep a hold of numbers with recent positivity within the trade. That said the demand is very much there, so if you are looking to sell going forward, please get in touch.

Organics

Hoggs

Good standard weight organic hoggs are sitting at a base of 740- 780ppkg, depending on location and spec. Demand does remain firm, with organics been swiftly uplifted to avoid losing them to competition.

Cattle

Organic prime cattle are still very much in high demand with the premium stretching higher every week. Currently sitting around  740-750ppkg. Please phone to discuss the options available. Organic store cattle in good demand.
