Good Morning Members!
The cold snap is certainly making its presence felt this week, although Jack Frost hasn’t quite got his icy fingers into the fields yet, 3.OC was reported this morning from Aberdeen. However the recent milder spell has encouraged the grass to grow and the turnips and everything else that we desperately needed all the way through the summer when fodder was few and far between.
Cattle
Prime cattle have remained fairly static this week, sill hanging around the 645ppk mark. However the store cattle trade would have you believe otherwise - the smaller the dearer by all accounts!
Cow prices are still sitting at a nice 550-60ppk again standing still but still a good price. Demand has increased as the weeks progress heading into winter
We have increased requirements for beef x dairy calves coming on all the time, if you have any please get in touch. Store cattle have steadied up a wee bit, but good ready to feed cattle are still easy to place. We have a lot of buyers now looking to fill up on Angus bullocks spring or autumn 24 born and older, if you have any please phone your local fields person, and we can arrange a viewing.
Sheep:
Sheep trade has remained steady as well, currently sitting between 640-660ppk depending on location and spec. Similar to the cattle trade – the store sheep trade has also caught fire, with the south opening up with all the afore mentioned grass coming on – store sheep and long keep store sheep no less are now in demand.
We have still have store lambs coming on in smaller lots, so if you’ve an empty field in the offering that needs to be filled, give us call. By the same token we have several members also looking for grazing – if you can help, please get in touch and we will point you in the right direction.
Organics
Lamb
Organic fat lambs are coming forward thick and fast now, leading to the trade coming back ever so slightly, with the premium resting approximatley 10ppk above the conventiona1 trade. Organic store lambs wanted
Cattle
Organic prime cattle are still paying well with the premium stretching up to 730ppk. There is a waiting list to get them away now, so please bear that in mind when booking in and lead times.
