Good Afternoon Members,
The store season has kickedoff in earnest, while the border being shut has posed a significant problem forstore lambs and breeding sheep going into Wales and Scotland, the trade stillremains strong, several buyers both sides of the border have come forwardasking for stronger shorter keep store lambs 38kg and up over.
Store cattle are stillflying off the shelves like hotcakes, if you have got them, we can sell em!Just give your local fields person a call.
Cattle
Primecattle are creeping up the scale a bit this week, with some outlets in theregion of 640ppk with AA Paying up to 65oppk- and young bulls still coming intotheir own at 630ppk , as numbers tighten, the trade should continue to climb
Cow pricesare cruising along in the 545-560 base. Thesehigher prices look set to stay going forward, with a record number of femalesbeing killed, so reports read this week. Dairy cows are up to 10ppk behindtheir beef counterparts, but still coming to good money, with best dairy cowsin excess of £2250 in the last week. Organic cows have a part to play at themoment – paying up to 565, so if you have any lurking about, please get intouch.
Aspreviously mentioned, the demand for store cattle is hotting up again withyearling cattle reaching up to 400ppk depending on weight and spec and breed...Please get in touch with your local field’s person, if you have any you wouldlike to move on.
We also have increased requirements for beef x dairy calves coming onlineshortly.
Sheep:
Spring lamb trade is on the climb! As the summer heads into August weare seeing the trade start to lift – which is unusual for this time of year. Mostlambs in the last week 740-750p/kg, but the trade has risen as the week hasgone. The lack of grass is holding members lambs back and so the amount comingforward is less than what it would normally be at this time of year.
At these fantastic lamb prices, coupled with relatively low prices forfeed barley, feeding lambs looks a very attractive prospect!
We currently have good demand for ewes, whichwith a number of different outlets handling them we hope to increase ewenumbers going forward, so please get in touch with us if this is something youwould be interested to know more about.
We have store lambs of all shapes and sizescoming on at high speed, if you’re looking to sell or buy please get in touch
