Cattle
The trade for clean cattle seems to have plateaued with abattoirs trading upwards of 640p/kg in the last week. There are some sharp regional variations in cattle availability and with many finishers concentrating on cereal harvest some firms are tighter for numbers than others. Retail sales remain tight which can often be the case for the summer when many people are on holiday.
All types of cull cows are keenly sort after North and South of the Border, with cows attracting bid prices 545-555p in the last week. With grass getting tight in many areas will we see a flush of cows come forward early this autumn?
Prime cattle are creeping up the scale a bit this week, with some outlets in the region of 640ppk with AA Paying up to 650 ppk- and young bulls still coming into their own at 630ppk, as numbers tighten, the trade should continue to climb
Demand for store cattle is remarkable, and I think the bluetongue restrictions are helping drive the premium for Scottish Cattle. More store cattle urgently required particularly forward stores and Angus sired stores of all sizes and weights.
We are excited to announce that we have a major new outlet for Angus sired calves dairy calves.
14-28 days. 45kg minimum weight. Please get in touch with your local fields man for further information.
Sheep
Lamb numbers coming forward have got much stronger in the last week with prices probably now peaked for the Summer at a peak of740-750p/kg. Domestic demand remains strong which is pleasing, particularly for Scottish lambs.
A recent trip down into England and you quickly become aware of the impact of the dry weather. With strong, well fleshed lambs making in excess of £150, a tonne of Barley is looking quite affordable to feed at £138/tonne!
Good quality store lambs available to suit all budgets. Scottish and English. Please get in touch if you are looking to buy or sell stores farm to farm.

Organic lamb in the last week up to 780ppk this week depending on location, weight and spec. Larger numbers are coming forward from grass as is typical for August. Organic lambs into 4 abattoirs in the last week. Please keep in touch with your local fieldsman to discuss requirements.

Organic prime cattle are still very much in high demand with organic cattle stretching up to 750-770ppk. More wanted.
