Cattle
The clean cattle trade feels like it has peaked for now with some firms trying to ease their quoted price back. Base prices are in the region of 635-645p/kg. Premiums vary across the board, with abattoirs paying in the region of 10-15p for Angus sired cattle. Please make sure that you have the approved Angus sires ear tag on the passport when registering the passport.
A rush of cows is yet to come forward, maybe with barley prices well back, cattle producers will try and finish cows this Autumn and add value?
Cows 555-565p in the last week, with cows movingNorth and South of the border depending on type and quality. Well fleshed cowsand boning types all wanted.
We have strong demand for store cattle and have awaiting list for steers and heifers of all types, particularly stores 350-500kg.
We are excited to announce that we have a major new outlet for Angus sired calves dairy calves.
14-28 days. 45kg minimum weight. Please get in touch with your local fieldsman for further information.
Sheep
As is normal for the time of the year numbers coming forward are creeping up with prices easing down to 720-740p/kg in the last week. The trade is looking like it will be down again for next week with rumours of a large abattoir in England being unexpectedly shut in the last seven days. Some abattoirs are starting to freeze legs of lambs down for Christmas next week!
Well fleshed lambs are generally killing out verywell off grass. With grass quality easing in the dry weather some producers areseeing the benefit of dry feed.
Good quality store lambs available to suit allbudgets. Scottish and English. Please get in touch if you are looking to buy orsell stores farm to farm.
Organics
Lamb
Organic lamb volumes are like London busses. As can sometimes happen in August, supply has gone from being week to over supply in 10 days with large numbers now coming forward. Organic lamb outlook does look more positive going forward once we get into the middle of September and a new order comes in.
Cattle
Organic prime cattle are in reasonable demand with organic cattle 740-750pin the last week. The bank holiday weekend in England is causing a slightsupply chain issue next week with many firms operating a 4 day week.
