Cattle
Finished cattle in Scotland have either stood on or eased 5p in the last week with cattle base prices quoted around 640-645p.English prime cattle numbers are reportedly tighter in number. Good premiums available for Angus sired cattle.
Cull cows wanted to meet strong demand from numerous processors. With the English schools about to go back we expect processing beef demand to remain firm. Base prices in the region of 560-575pbase. Plain cows and well fleshed cows urgently required every week. If you have barren cows ready please contact your local fieldsman or the office so we can maximise your returns.
If you have finished bulling and have cull mature bulls to move… get in contact as we have two good outlets.
We have a waiting list of store cattle buyers looking for beasts, particularly stores 350-500kg. It will be interesting to see if the proposed relaxing of Bluetongue regulations will impact on strong Scottish store values in September. Extremely tight forage stocks in much of England may also be significant too and may counter the impact of lower cereal prices.
We are pleased to report that we have a new outlet for Angus sired dairy calves.
14-28 days. 45kg minimum weight. Please get in touch with your local fieldsman for further information.
Sheep
Prime lambs have taken a slide this last week, but prices remain ahead of the same week last year which is excellent for our farmer members returns. Standard weight lambs in the last week 670-690pdependent on location and slaughter specifications.
Lighter lambs are now coming forward and with store lamb prices having taken a slide, this may be an attractive option for some hill lambs. Lighter lambs to670p in the last 7 days. The easing in the trade over the last fortnight will be a boost to exporters who have struggled to remain competitive against a tight domestic market and should hopefully boost demand as volumes come forward.
When booking in lambs please make sure that you have enough tags for your lambs as we are aware of some longer run ins from tag manufacturers.
Good quality store lambs coming forward both in Scotland and England. Please get in touch if you have surplus grass and need some extra mouths!
Organics
Lamb
Organic lamb demand is quite slow as is normal for the time of year with large numbers coming forward of grass. Organic store lambs coming available in large batches of various breeds.
Cattle
Organic cattle numbers have eased in line with demand, with numbers coming forward a bit like London buses!. Trade in the last week in the region of 740-750p dependent on quality. Forward organic store cattle wanted.
