Prices for prime cattle had largely levelled out but there has been a small uplift by some processors in the last week with finished cattle volumes seemingly tighter in England. Published base prices are in the of 645 - 655pkg dependent on specification and type with modest premiums available for registered Angus.
Cull cows once again are the biggest movers and with volumes tighter we have seen the trade climb to 510-535p. Premiums available for well fleshed beef cows. We have very strong demand for all types of beef and dairy cows from up to 10 abattoirs every week. More wanted if you are looking to make space ahead of lambing and calving.
Store cattle are keenly competed for and we have a retained list of buyers looking for cattle on a farm to farm basis. Dairy x calves on and off the milk available.
Along with a big improvement in the weather, the hogg price rose slightly in the last 7 days with Ramadan falling at the end of the week. Base prices have varied between 710-740p/kg in the last seven days. Hoggs this week last year were 690-695p. Supply and demand remains finely balanced and there seems to be good numbers of hoggs in certain areas.
With many Muslims heading into a fasting period it seems unlikely that we will see any short term uplift in the price of hoggs. Some firms are reducing their slaughter days rather than chasing numbers at higher prices.
Hogg quality is generally very high for the time of the year which can be seen on the excellent grade sheets. Thankyou.
Organic cattle are keenly competed for which is fantastic for our organic members who still finish cattle. Base prices in excess of 700p. Please get in touch with your local fieldsman to discuss the options available. Organic store cattle urgently required.
We continue to have strong demand for organic hoggs with a premium of 20-30p dependent on quality. More required going forward, please get in touch.
