Special Announcement

The Board of Directors are disappointed to announce that Vicky has decided not to return to Farm Stock Scotland after her maternity leave is completed in the Summer, allowing her to spend more time with her young family.

The Directors respect her decision and want to place on record their sincere thanks to her for her dedication and hard work over the last twelve and a half years. The whole team wish her all the very best in the future and we part on good terms.

Change brings opportunity for other staff to progress and Vicky’s departure leaves a strong and successful procurement team with livestock throughput up 4% on the year. We are delighted that Lucy Bell, Nikki Gilbertson and Alex Norval will continue to service their respective farmer members as per the current maternity leave which began back in September.

Lucy can be contacted on 07879 602 962

Nikki can be contacted on 07595 313 040

Alex can be contacted on 07787 826 355

Cattle

Prime cattle have jumped another 10p/kg in the last week, with cattle attracting headline base prices in excess of 630-640p, Angus are attracting a premium of 20p/kg. Premiums are available for full loads of one pickup. Very unusually there is a general consensus from both processors and many cattle finishers that after a run of unprecedented price rises that some stability in the trade at current levels would be welcome for the long term sustainability of the sector.

Cows have risen again and are highly competed for in the region of 500-515p/kg depending on quality and type. We have strong demand for all types of beef and dairy cows from up to 10 abattoirs every week. More wanted every week.

Store cattle are on absolute fire! We have a long list of orders for forward stores, Angus and grazing cattle. We are marketing store cattle farm to farm as fast as we are offered them. Please phone to discuss the variety of options available for farm to farm marketing.

Sheep

The lamb trade has plateaued with demand easing off as the week has gone on after last weeks recovery in the trade.  Hoggs in the last week have traded 730-750p base. Many firms have already started buying up lambs for Easter on the 20th April (due to the long 90 day shelf life on primals in cryovac packaging)

Small-medium ewes wanted weekly, base prices to 440p/dw in the last week.
